Did Lord Krishna ever marry Radha? If so, why did he marry so many other women?
No
The
time of Krishna's love is about to end. The love of Radha-Shri Krishna is said
to be the union of the soul and the great soul.
Why
did Krishna not marry Radha? Various explanations are given behind this.
Shri
Krishna met Radha at the age of 10. After that he never returned to Vrindavan.
Apart from this, there is no mention anywhere that Radha has ever visited
Dwarka. There is no mention of Radha in the ancient texts of South India.
According
to another popular interpretation, Radha once asked Krishna why he did not want
to marry him. So Lord Krishna told Radha that how can one marry his own soul?
Shri Krishna meant that he and Radha are one. They do not exist separately.
There
is also a belief that Radha refused to marry Shri Krishna because she felt that
he was not suitable for the life of the palace. Radha was a cowherd, while
people wanted to see Krishna marrying a princess. Shri Krishna tried to
convince Radha but Radha was firm in her determination.
Radha
had realized that Shri Krishna is God and she was like a devotee to Shri
Krishna. She was lost in devotion, which sometimes people take for material
love. That's why some believe that the question of marriage between Radha and
Shri Krishna does not arise, the relationship between Radha and Shri Krishna is
that of a devotee and God. Radha does not have a separate existence from Shri
Krishna. Marriage requires two people.
Some
even interpret it in such a way that social norms played the role of a villain
in the Radha-Krishna love story. The social background of Radha and Shri
Krishna did not permit their marriage.
To
understand Radha properly, one has to understand the mystery of rasa and love.
This is the blissful experience of spiritual love.
The
supernatural love of Lord Krishna and Radha is well known, people give examples
of their sacred love. But it is also true that not only Radha is dear to Shri
Krishna, but every person who calls him, whether it is Meera, Draupadi or a
Gopi. Shrimad Bhagwat Geeta describes all the pastimes of Shri Krishna, out of
which one of his pastimes is also in which he married with 16 thousand girls
simultaneously. Here we are telling you an interesting story behind this Leela.
According to the Bhagwat Geeta, a demon named
Narakasura, the king of Pragjyotishpur city, had harassed all the gods like
Indra, Varuna, Agni, Vayu, etc. He also started troubling the saints. He also
imprisoned the princesses of the kingdoms and the women of saints. When his
tyranny increased a lot, the deities and sages went to the shelter of Lord
Krishna. Lord Krishna gave him the assurance of getting rid of Narakasura but
this demon was cursed to die at the hands of the woman. That is why, to kill
the demon, Shri Krishna took his wife Satyabhama as a charioteer and killed her
and freed all the imprisoned girls. Then all these 16 girls started telling
Shri Krishna that you got us free but now where will we go because this demon
has killed our family members earlier. Some of these girls had their families
alive who were refusing to adopt them in the name of character. Then the Lord
listened to the plight of all these girls and married them all together. During
this, God had kept 16 thousand forms simultaneously.
The
day when Lord Krishna with the help of wife Satyabhama killed Narakasura and
freed 16 thousand girls from captivity. On this occasion, a day before Diwali,
'Narak Chaturdashi' is celebrated.
